Love and Hope in Marriage

Updated: Mar 19, 2023

Scripture Reference: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NKJV

4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

If we did a survey of married couples, how many would say that this season has been challenging? We're all feeling the pressure in different ways as time and circumstances are constantly changing; but our hope remains in God and His Word never changes. Last year, we decided to put 1 Corinthians 13 in our room as a visual reminder. With each new day that we wake up and see it, it encourages us to praise God for His enduring love and be intentional about loving each other sacrificially. Putting one another's needs above our own and being patient and kind toward one another. The word of the Lord is so powerful because it teaches, corrects and guides us in this life, and that includes our marriage. So, whatever season your marriage is in, we encourage you to run to God's word, keep praying, trusting, hoping and allow the power of the Holy Spirit to help you put the holy scriptures into action. We've learned that it's not enough to say, "I Love You," but we have to demonstrate love on a daily basis. Love in action means giving, forgiving, serving, embracing and being present; letting your spouse know that you see them, hear and care about them deeply. This is what God did for us by sending His only Son Jesus and Jesus loved us so much that He gave His life to redeem ours. God's will for marriage is that we will exemplify the love Christ has for His church and in return, His church submits and reverences Him as Lord. Yes, we live in a fallen world and some days will be easier than others. But through it all, keep believing, keep hoping and keep trying because love never fails. We pray that you will be encouraged as you seek the Lord daily, receive His love and love one another wholeheartedly. Our God is faithful and He is always near. May all of our marriages bear good fruit as we each abide in Christ and He abides in us. Blessings, The Pearsons
