September in the U.S. is National Suicide Prevention Month.
This week in the U.S. is National Suicide Prevention Week (09/05-09/11).
&
Today, is World Suicide Prevention Day (09/10).
According to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, evidence shows that providing supportive services, talking about suicide, reducing access to means of self-harm, and following up with loved ones are just some of the actions we can all take to help others.
The CDC.gov states that In 2019, 12 million American adults seriously thought about suicide, 3.5 million planned a suicide attempt, and 1.4 million attempted suicide.
Suicide affects all ages. It is the second leading cause of death for people ages 10-34, the fourth leading cause among people ages 35-44, and the fifth leading cause among people ages 45-54.
Here at Inspire to Hope it is important to us, like many others around the world, to take some course of action to hopefully raise awareness to help suicide prevention efforts. Together, let’s be light bearers for Christ. Together, let’s walk in the Spirit of unity to be voices of hope. Together, let’s show someone in need that we genuinely care through the ministry of presence.
As children of God, we depend and stand on the Word of God. It’s life-giving and life-changing!
Here’s some Biblical encouragement to speak, believe, and meditate on:
I will not die, but I will live
and proclaim what the Lord has done. (Psalm 118:17; CSB)
I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live, love the Lord your God, obey him, and remain faithful to Him. (Deuteronomy 30:19-20)
We wait for the Lord;
He is our help and shield.
For our hearts rejoice in Him
because we trust in His holy name.
May your faithful love rest on us, Lord,
for we put our hope in you. (Psalm 33:20-22)
If the Lord had not been my helper,
I would soon rest in the silence of death.
If I say, “My foot is slipping,”
Your faithful love will support me, Lord.
When I am filled with cares,
Your comfort brings me joy. (Psalm 94:17-19)
The Lord is near the brokenhearted;
He saves those crushed in spirit.
One who is righteous has many adversities,
but the Lord rescues him from them all. (Psalm 34:18-19)
